The Overdrive Cycling Club, founded in 2007, is a large, eclectic group of cyclists in the Chippewa Valley with the common vision of promoting cycling and a healthy life style while promoting and contributing to the causes that we care about.
Our members have put on a bike rodeo at Northwoods Elementary School, participated in the Eau Claire County Wellness Fair and donated many hours to raising money for and constructing and maintaining the trail system at Lowes Creek. We have also helped put on the Cleghorn Harvest race to raise money for the Cleghorn community park, as well as a number of other events including the Spring Fever Six, the Sierra Club Century, the Menomonie United Way Ride, and the Chippewa Valley Firecracker. Each year our members have helped raise significant amounts of money for various charities including the Dar Volrath Scholarship, the United Way, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Many of our members are racers, and compete in WisPort races, as well as licensed USA Cycling road and mountain biking events such as the Chippewa Valley Firecracker. Several of our members have achieved quite a bit of success over the years. For example, Mark Lewis is one of the best comp level mountain bike racers in the area, and Joan Carlson has consistently dominated her competition in the WiSport Time Trial and Road Race Series.

In addition to catering to the “lactic acid junkies,” we have many members who enjoy recreational riding and touring. With these riders in mind, we put on a number of events that are intended to build skills and camaraderie, including a bike maintenance clinic, mountain bike skills clinic, and organized recreational rides on Wednesday nights to provide an alternative to the current “hammer fest.” We are also make an annual ride to Stillwater to watch the pros race in the Nature Valley Grand Prix, and to Nelson to eat at the Cheese Factory.
It’s our intention to have Overdrive Cycling be a club where both racers and recreational riders can find a place to train (regardless of their fitness goals), ride, and develop lasting friendships. In addition, we will continue to find ways to give back to our community.
